Nina Thompson Carter has been at Bloom since we opened in 2012, bringing her (then three year old) son, Abbott, in tow. Nina instinctively knew that the Waldorf approach was the best option for her son in his early years, and he thrived at Bloom.

Although Nina had six years of teaching experience at Little Friends previous to Bloom's opening, when she started with us it was as an administrative assistant.

Her passion for being with the children drove her to grab ahold of a lead teacher role when the opportunity presented itself.

Nina settled into her current role as the lead preschool teacher in the Sunflower class in 2015. At the time I was sorry to lose her from the office, but it was soon clear to me that teaching is Nina's true calling, and in the classroom is where she belongs. She is truly gifted.

Nina has been ravenous for the Waldorf-inspired teacher trainings offered through LifeWays. She has proven to be not only a gifted teacher but also incredible mentor to new teachers starting out at Bloom.

Nina deeply loves her work, and this comes through every day as she engages with the children. Watching Nina lead circle time with her class is such a joy—because HER joy is so apparent. She also loves to incorporate her gift at baking into as many days as possible during the week.

I am perpetually touched by how intimately she knows each child in her care, and how much she loves each and every one of them. The happiness and success of the children, both intellectually and in developing healthy social skills, is so very important to Nina.

I asked Nina to share a favorite quote with us—

The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination. - Albert Einstein
